Observatory expresses condolences on announcement of Queen's death

The SKAO expressed its heartfelt condolences to the royal family, and the citizens and governments of the United Kingdom and Commonwealth, on the news of the death of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.

"The passing of the Queen, a much-respected figure symbolising leadership and integrity over so many decades, will be felt with sorrow throughout the United Kingdom, around the Commonwealth, and beyond," said the Observatory's Director-General, Prof. Philip Diamond. "All involved in the SKA Observatory share the sense of loss and express their condolences to the members of the royal family during this difficult period."

The United Kingdom is the host country of the SKAO's headquarters. In recognition of the period of official mourning and as a mark of respect, flags at the Observatory's facilities will be flown at half-mast from Friday 9 September, until the day after the funeral.
