SKAO scientists at SKAO are distributed throughout the Observatory across many roles. In addition to their Observatory roles, they are actively engaged in their own personal scientific research.

SKAO Science Teams

The wider science capabilities team are the main channel through which the science community engages with the Observatory. 

The team provides regular updates to the community on the current design, construction progress, and potential future upgrades through the webinar and newsletters and other fora. The team also contributes to the strategic development of the SKA scientific capabilities.

National scientific liaisons

National scientific liaisons act as strategic connectors between the SKAO and the scientific communities within assigned SKAO member countries. The roles exist to strengthen scientific engagement, improve information flow, and enhance participation in SKA-related science and activities at the national level.

This role forms part of the SKAO’s broader community engagement framework and contributes to a coordinated, Observatory-wide approach to scientific engagement. SKAO Science Working Groups

The Science Working Groups (SWGs) are scientific advisory bodies that provide input to the SKAO on issues related to the design, construction, and future operations of the SKA that are likely to affect the Observatory’s scientific capability, productivity and user relations.  They provide forums for the science community to interact on specific SKA science areas, including planning for observing with the SKA.

The SKAO and the SKA Regional Centre Network (SRCNet) are committed to providing users with a high quality end-to-end user experience that enables the delivery of transformational science. As such, the quality of the data products (and their provenance), as well as the provision of resources, user tools, and training are of paramount importance. A close and continuing partnership with the user community is crucial to ensuring that the highest level of quality is achieved for all future users of the SKAO and SRCNet. A broad range of tools, pipelines, processes, and resources are actively being developed that will span the entire future SKA user experience. Community testing and early user feedback will be vital to the final development and deployment of these resources. Your opinions are extremely valuable and will ultimately ensure that we deliver an SKA that works for you and enables you do exceptional science.

We are collecting expressions of interest from those who would like to be testers and early users of these resources and provide feedback to the SKAO and SRCNet. Feedback will be sought through a variety of methods, and may include focus and beta testing groups, and feedback forms. An indication of your interest here is not a commitment of time or resources on your part.

Both the SKAO and SRCNet are developing plans to allow the community to stay up-to-date with progress.
